Can anyone bring a pet to the
veterinary treatment facility for treatment?
Only animals owned by
personnel authorized DoD medical care may be examined,
immunized and treated for prevention of disease at
veterinary treatment facilities.
Are "use fees"
authorized charges?
IAW AFI 48-131, paragraph
6-1.b (4), the Army prohibits charging professional,
administrative, sick call, office visit or similar fees over
and above the statutory $2.00 user fee. Customers may not be
charged for just bringing the pet through the door. However,
appropriate fees for medication, shots, etc. are permitted.
Does the
Veterinary treatment facility provide pet neutering and
spaying and other surgeries?
Those veterinary
procedures, commonly recognized by the profession as
cosmetic or elective surgery, will not be performed in the
United States or U.S. Territories. Army and NAF
veterinarians may only perform surgery to prevent undue
suffering or to save the life or limb of animals.
